What are concrete footings?

We may not see it, but the earth below us is constantly shifting. As tiny as these movements are, they can cause a lot of damage to structures that don’t have adequate foundations and footing. Sinking, cracking, and shifting are the results of poor foundation and can result in structures collapsing over time.

Concrete footings are what provide the foundation with the stability it needs so that the structures above it aren’t prone to tilting or shifting which can damage walls and cause a building to sag. Think of concrete footings as the feet of the foundation. They are what attach the foundation and everything above it to the soil.

Concrete footings are the footings of choice for builders and are the most widely used in construction. The reason is that they are strong, and they adapt well to various soil conditions and construction types.

Most building codes require you to have a footing with a concrete foundation, otherwise, you’re unlikely to get a building permit.
